I wish I had been this wise in my first year of post-secondary education. First-years are learning that NOW is the time to start networking.
“Keep your friends close, and your colleagues closer”, is my own spin on a classic proverb. It is a simple way to remember the importance of maintaining good relationships with your teachers and colleagues during your educational career. In time, these very people may become essential rungs on your networking ladder.
In Frank Armstrong’s writing class today, graduates of the Advertising and Marketing program were invited back to share their expertise and experiences with the class. The group discussed with us their own college experiences, advice about how to be successful in class and interesting details about their current work fields.
My group was paired with Dayna Scott, a Marketing Communications Coordinator at Ontario East. The best piece of advice Dayna offered us, was to start building good connections with our teachers and colleagues now, and to maintain these relationships into the future.
